The Labor Standards Law of Korea states that the working hours in Korea cannot exceed eight hours a day and per week forty four hours. But in case of any Labor- Management contract working fifty six hours a week is negotiable and possible. The Ministry of Labor has to approve the industries where the workers work for fifty six hours a week. It is very essential to get the approval of the ministry. Fifty- six hours work is very common in export industries.
The working hours cannot exceed six hours a day if the workers have to work in harmful or risky situation. In a week the working hours for this kind of labor cannot exceed thirty six hours every week. If the working hours exceed thirty six per week then this has to be approved by the Ministry of Labor or Labor Ministry. An Off time of one hour per day should also be granted to the labors according to the Labor Standards Law. An Off day per week should also be granted to the laborers. For an over time the laborer should be a fifty percent standard premium.
