The business directory scam which we first found preying on hard-working firms in Britain, and then Europe, has gone global.
We’ve heard from Anthony Warner who owns debt advice firms in Sydney, Australia, and has been stung by The World Business Directory (www.world-businessdirectory.com).
It began with an email asking for Anthony’s business details, promising in block capitals: “Updating is free of charge!”
He replied – and got hit with a £980 invoice for each of his four businesses.
Now the directory rogues have added admin fees of £35 and late payment fees of £98 to each invoice.
Apparently the charges are hidden in the small print, though Anthony says: “I strongly feel they have employed misleading and deceptive practices purposely designed to trap consumers.”
The World Business Directory gives an address in Old Street, Central London. This is a virtual office provided by Mail Boxes Etc.
The web address is registered to International Directories Ltd at another Mail Boxes Etc.
The website says that it is owned by a different outfit, EU Business Services, registered in Nevis, West Indies.
Anthony, stand firm. We have never known any rogue business directory firm to sue – a hearing in open court is the last thing they want.
World Business Directory has not replied to our emails – which were opened in Romania.
